I was playing a theme on a drop D-tuned guitar and added the second part with the deep voice quite quickly. I was thinking prog rock, but ended up with a folk rock tune, I guess. Lots of baritone voice and baritone guitar in this piece.

New band name for my one man band. The ancient form of my first name.
My name is Holger Luth. I was about 15 years old, when I got my first guitar. Actually it belonged to an older friend, but the never played it, so he let me borrow it. I had been taking piano lessons earlier, but I hated it. The most fun I had with the piano, was to create my own little tunes. i was no good at repetitive rehearsing. It has been the same with my guitar playing. Many of my guitar playing friends, spent hours rehearsing technical stuff. I never had the patience for that, I just did what I thought sounded right. My mind was more directed towards songwriting, than towards being the guitar hero, though I did like to play neverending live solos, long enough to make the bass player make puking sounds and the drummer start throwing sticks at me... I played in both small and larger bands with up to 8-9 people, with violins, flutes and lots of other instruments, but I think my best time in a band, was playing in a three piece. It was in the aftermath of Police, British New Wave, the Danish Punk scene, Danish songwriters like C.V. Jorgensen and many more. You had to invent a lot of new "big" chords, in order to create a bigger sound, being the only guitarist ( and lead singer). Later I started listening a lot to bands like U2, The Cure, Pink Floyd, Kraftwerk and most of all Peter Gabriel. Peter is like my guiding star. I have had the luck of seeing him in concert a couple of times in the recent years and even if he has gained a few pounds and is called "Papa Bear" by his bass player, he can still sing better than anyone I know. His voice is directly wired to his heart, it's like every word has its' own set of wings and flies out of his mouth, carrying an important message. Wish I could get anywhere near that! My musical taste has developed over the years and I try out a lot of different genres, out of curiosity and because I get inspired by other musicians, here on SC and by other friends in music. I have 3 sons, that are all engaged in music somehow and they have also inspired me a lot. They have a totally different take on the term "Musician", than I have and I find it inspiring and I am amazed at the multifaceted way they can tackle the tasks of a songwriter, producer and musician. I must admit, that my music sounds a little old fashioned compared to music of today, but what the heck.. I am from 1957, I grew up with Beatles, Stones, Kinks, The Who, Deep Purple, Uriah Heep, Jefferson Airplane, The Band, Bob Dylan.. need I say more?

Story behind the song
This song developed from some themes I was playing on a drop D-tuned guitar. The song melody seemed quite sad to me, so I wrote some quite depressing lyrics to it. Don't let them follow you around! :0)
Lyrics
I felt it lately, my heads been hanging down. Some kind of depression, a hole in the ground. Everyone tells me, that I should be glad, But all of their talking just makes me so sad. And it seems to be something that follows me around. And it seems to be something that follows me around. How can I break down, the wall that I see? No one can help me, its just there for me. If I had a hammer and knew its weak spot. Id smash down the wall, but Im stuck in a rut. And it seems to be something that follows me around. And it seems to be something that follows me around. Where is the way out? I need to get back. Back to the good life, the friends that I had. Caught in a maze, seems that I lost my drive. All I got left, is my will to survive. And its all that I have, but it keeps me alive. And its all that I have, but it keeps me alive.

Great vintage vibe here - I like hearing the vocals riding on top (maybe the chorus vocals are a tad louder than the main vocal or it's just my old ears?) Nice sounding guitar solo too!

Hej, Holger, this has slightly 1970s feel that is very appealing. It's not like a particular band from that era but has the same languid trippy underground vibe. I love it... well played and recorded. It maybe does possess a Scandanavian Prog rock undercurrent. Kaipa ?

I can hear a little Tull/Beatles in here but most of all I hear a great and very well crafted song with interresting/catchy themes.Aspecialy like the refrenge with the very rich vocals with minor seventh/nineth something? Very good! Very well done!

I liked these Oriental vibes of the song - there are some catchy melodies combined with ethnic/folk peculiar intonations here. The whole picture is very good - all the elements are in nice balance. I may add that I also liked the lyrics.

It has got a Keltic flow around it, at the same it makes me think of the Beatles and about the 60s. I like the rhythm here. Perfectly made with such good guitars. I really like this. Its incredible how many songs you are producing.....

well expressed and played my friend, this is a situation that confronts all of us at some point in our lives, so it has a timeless quality that the music supports beautifully with it's changes and driving vibe.

Great Song Holger. Love the initial rhythm you use and then return to it after the middle section. Excellent lyrics that I think we can all relate too. Musically on the money. Super track and a hit with me.

Excellent song, I love that prog rock/folk fusion you've achieved here. Great melody and memorable guitar parts. I hear retro elements, yet it has a timeless quality. There are some songs that strike you as a hit immediately, and this is one of them.

Very nice song :o) You go deep on one of the notes in the chorus. And the tune itself has a kind of shadows/westernmovie sound. Nice.
