A collab with my friend Knud Erik Jensen. He plays the guitars and did the mixing, I play the mandolin, the ukulele, wrote the lyrics and did the vocals.

New band name for my one man band. The ancient form of my first name.
My name is Holger Luth. I was about 15 years old, when I got my first guitar. Actually it belonged to an older friend, but the never played it, so he let me borrow it. I had been taking piano lessons earlier, but I hated it. The most fun I had with the piano, was to create my own little tunes. i was no good at repetitive rehearsing. It has been the same with my guitar playing. Many of my guitar playing friends, spent hours rehearsing technical stuff. I never had the patience for that, I just did what I thought sounded right. My mind was more directed towards songwriting, than towards being the guitar hero, though I did like to play neverending live solos, long enough to make the bass player make puking sounds and the drummer start throwing sticks at me... I played in both small and larger bands with up to 8-9 people, with violins, flutes and lots of other instruments, but I think my best time in a band, was playing in a three piece. It was in the aftermath of Police, British New Wave, the Danish Punk scene, Danish songwriters like C.V. Jorgensen and many more. You had to invent a lot of new "big" chords, in order to create a bigger sound, being the only guitarist ( and lead singer). Later I started listening a lot to bands like U2, The Cure, Pink Floyd, Kraftwerk and most of all Peter Gabriel. Peter is like my guiding star. I have had the luck of seeing him in concert a couple of times in the recent years and even if he has gained a few pounds and is called "Papa Bear" by his bass player, he can still sing better than anyone I know. His voice is directly wired to his heart, it's like every word has its' own set of wings and flies out of his mouth, carrying an important message. Wish I could get anywhere near that! My musical taste has developed over the years and I try out a lot of different genres, out of curiosity and because I get inspired by other musicians, here on SC and by other friends in music. I have 3 sons, that are all engaged in music somehow and they have also inspired me a lot. They have a totally different take on the term "Musician", than I have and I find it inspiring and I am amazed at the multifaceted way they can tackle the tasks of a songwriter, producer and musician. I must admit, that my music sounds a little old fashioned compared to music of today, but what the heck.. I am from 1957, I grew up with Beatles, Stones, Kinks, The Who, Deep Purple, Uriah Heep, Jefferson Airplane, The Band, Bob Dylan.. need I say more?

Story behind the song
I teamed up with my friend Knud Erik in his studio and we did this track together. Knud Erik came up with the main guitar lines and the idea of adding mandolin and ukulele. I built the lyrics on and idea of someone following a dangerous trail in life. We finished the song together and Knud Erik did the final mix.
Lyrics
Sometimes you feel that longing the call of the wild. You had that strange sensation ever since you were a child. You'd wake up in the night, there were shadows on the wall. You never saw them clearly, but you could hear them call. And you felt a burning urge Longing to be: Running with the pack! There is no turning back. Running with the pack down that dangerous track. You always knew deep inside that you were chosen for this. Your friends did not understand, there was so much you’d miss. Your path was a dark one through mountains it wound. Right up to the dark caves where the wolves can be found. And you felt a burning urge Longing to be: Running with the pack There is no turning back Running with the pack down that dangerous track

So much happening in here, a very dynamic Rock song with power. I like the vocals and the lyrics as well (the lyrics I still have to read). What I find funny here is when you are playing ukelele or mandolin, is the contrast with the heavy guitars. It's just impossible to play Rock with those instruments. You know I like that, because I'm constantly mixing genres myself. Nice one, Holger and Knud!

Love those lyrics!! Superb prog rock vibe, amazing arrangement and instrumentation - very inventive and creative...thoroughly entertaining throughout! Excellent vocals and really great hook. Ever heard Bad Company's Running With the Pack? It was a great song, and your song it right up there with that classic hit. To produce something better than Bad Company could have come up with is a very high achievement!

I've tried to put down a convincing 'metal' guitar sound...so far it's escaped me. However, you've nailed it here. Nice tempo changes. As usual, with all your songs Holger, the production is very high. You've managed to merge two styles with great ease. Well done to both of you. A very catchy little number. Great.

Holger goes Heavy and Progressive! Very cool take on 'metal', sounds like you found an Arkansas hillbilly for the mandolin ;) I like it! Mauri.

Loved it! Feeling a bit irritable this morning and this song soothed the savage beast :-)) Progressive metal very well done. Loved the lyrics, the great guitar tone and riffage and the neat injection of mando, which was creative and effective. Top shelf vox as always and a perfect mix to my ears. Great collab you guys!!
