Story behind the song
Conceived November 2000. This is Take 1 Mix 2b recorded November 2000 Sony DTC-700
"DFXFMC" stands for "Delay Effects Freakout Miscellaneous Crap", which is an improvised version of Robert Fripp's "Frippertronics" delay-layered recording technique that I've done from time to time to close out my tracking session tapes.
(For you youngsters who don't know what "Frippertronics" is: just f***ing Google it!)
But, these are NOT ambient soundscapes we're doing here!! Far, FAR from it! :-o
I start by utilizing 2 different 5 second delay effects set to infinite feedback, fed from separate auxillary channels on my mixing console to the delays (& the outputs from the DFX's brought back to another separate aux input on my mixer) & will in general (but not always) take a 2 bar section of a well known song - at exactly 96 beats per minute - & build up various instrumentation/vocals into the loops.
Then, I'll usually put a live out-of control discordant solo guitar (non-delayed) on top of all this.
Then lastly, I finish things up by turning it into a increasingly chaotic & discordant ascending feedback loop cacophony!
And if it's a known song I'm doing, there will usually be some screaming & obscene variation on the song title/lyrics, etc......!!
Yeah some of these can get REALLY rude, I mean to tell ya....!!! :-D
AND....... I'm doing all of this whilst recording live, direct to DAT!!!!
So I'm literally performing, recording, AND mixing all at the same time!!
THIS particular one is obviously inspired by the whole Florida recount mess.....
....at EXACTLY the time it was all occurring, & is an edited down version of the full length original (which runs well over 20 minutes!)
Starts with a loop of Drums/Cymbals, discordant power chords, keyboard slap Bass....
.....& then "George" on the right channel...
....& "Al" on the left channel....
(naturally! Duh...!) :D
....telling each other that THEY'RE the President!!
Next, I layer some discordant piano plucking & multiple incantations of "Sue Me, Sue Me, etc".
Then I cut to my live-non-delay looped WILDLY chaotic shredding guitar solo.
Then some more "F**k you Al/George......"'s put into the loops for the sheer f**k of it.....!!
Then I start layering various sound effects (Gunshots, Cannons, Glass Crashes) & discordant piano chords & orchestra hits.
Then I start adding ascending shred guitar, & then the final line about shooting the Lawyers on both sides!!!
If there could ever be a "musical" equivalent to the whole f***ing mess.....
....THIS would be IT!!!
