DESCENDANTS OF ASAPH Asaph was the first and chief musician in the early days before the temple was built in Jerusalem. By all accounts (1Chron 16v5) he was a percussionist and drummer and together with Heman and Jeduthun formed the first worship band to accompany the choir in praise and worship of God He wrote a number of psalm lyrics under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit. His lyrics are very down to earth and he likes to say things exactly as they are! 'Descendants of Asaph' follow in his tradition and is a virtual band dedicated to making music and song unto the Lord and presenting His challenge to the world today through parables in music. Lyrics
JERICHO went down to jericho fell among thieves got stripped of my dignity they took all my clothes abused my poor body struck me hard on the head at the side of the highway they left me for dead along comes a priest he's making great haste 'I'd like to help out but God's business can't wait to deal with your problem I'm simply not qualified' so he quickly crossed over and passed by on the other side next comes a levite I'm building up hope for the chance of a rescue just broadened in scope but indifference is rife and just like the rest he won't get hands dirty or spoil good sabbath best well I've nearly passed out in the heat of the day when a stranger appears he goes out of his way to pour out the oil and bind up my wounds so a life has been saved for at most a dollar or two so who is this stranger what motive his deed for he helped out this poor man in his hour of great need he showed acts of kindness when things couldn't get worse deep were the linings of the samaritan's purse so who is my neighbour on the highway of life? the widow and orphan the bruised, battered wife the pitiful drunkard with cheap bottle of wine the sick and the convict behind bars doing time? will you welcome your neighbour with your arms open wide or be like the others and pass by on the other side?
