New Song and Video "Listen to the Girl" a lesson for younger people. The best way to get to know someone is FACE to FACE. The Human Way.
The Stray Dawgs are from Plantation, Florida. Lew Dawg Cloninger is the founding member and plays guitars and sings (many people refer to it as hollering). Founding member Steve Sallaz plays bass, sings and also does most of the mixing and mastering of our recordings. He also plays a variety of percussion instruments. We have many other musician friends that help us out at live shows as well as recording. Huge thanks go out to Susan Ivory Blue who has played piano and organ on many of our recordings and gigs. Also special thanks to Lew Knapper for his help with Texas blues harp on many of our songs.

Story behind the song
Based on the Fred Mitchel poem "The Siren Sea" from 2000. Fred had made his first Trans Atlantic crossing on a sailboat. You think a 50 foot boat is pretty big until you get out into the middle of the ocean. Then it is just you and God. The Ocean doesn't care how much money you have, or how smart you are. You are at the mercy of God and the elements.
Lyrics
V1 Oh mother, oh mother, go steel yourself, for your child to the deep sea has gone. Lured from your bosom by the tall sailin ships and a world so exotic and foreign. By the nights oh so black on the ocean's white crest, or stillness and stars that so shine. Ship's timbers a creakin under deep ocean's wrath as she shutters and groans on the brine. V2 With dolphins fair chasing and fishes that fly, with sails full and rigs there to climb. It's a beauty and wonder and danger you fear, but it's peace and contentment you find. What lures these young lads, it's so hard to decipher, but beware that you'll see em' no more. For mother your child is lured by the siren of the ocean so wild at their door. Chorus: So head up to windward lads. The siren she calls. Feel the wind, taste the salt of the sea. It's a life that you've chosen out here on the waves of the ocean so wild and so free. V3 (not on recording) While roundin' the Horn, they're trapped in a blow. She's listing at thirty degrees. Jack Tar's up the rig, hanging on to the yards. He cries "Lord will you save me hear please! When the storm fades away, then it's "pour us some grog" cause we cheated the Devil once more. We'll pick up the trades and make for New England where my sweetheart is waiting ashore. Chorus: V4 They're forever gone, enchanted by mystery that took men to their fates evermore. Once living the life of the ocean's great passage, land's safety gives comfort no more. And they'll never be happy til Neptune he finds em, and their bones rest on the ocean's vast floor. It's the beauty, it's the wonder, it's the danger you fear that took your child so far from shore. Chorus: And so free And so free And so free
