Trash-pop, guitar rock and melodic miscellany.
Not so much a band as a bloke with a guitar and a laptop, The Smivets deliver a genre-bending blend of pop, rock, punk, prog and many other monosyllables.

Story behind the song
The storm petrel is a small seabird renowned for sheltering from storms in the lee of ships. Early sailors came to see them as harbingers of storms, or even as sinister spirits who deliberately summoned storms to drive ships away from forbidden seas. Some have used the bird as a metaphor for a revolutionary, but my meaning here is for those who seem to delight in prophesying doom. The danger with that kind of prophecy is it can easily become self fulfilling. Anyhoo, it's also a good excuse for a good dose of downtuned rocking, presented here for the Clickers Club Carnival of the Animals challenge, Nov'15.
Lyrics
He follows the storm Ever seeking to warn All those who can be led Of the doom some say is of his devising And he gathers the young In American tongue Too guiled to see It's themselves that they are recognising Deceiver! Deceiver! Storm Petrel Scaremonger! Deceiver! Storm Petrel flies Selling the fear The doomsayer Freezes hearts As he veils the unknown with a mask of terror An unquenchable thirst For believing the worst No matter what Seduced by the lie that we're cursed forever Deceiver! Deceiver! Storm Petrel Hatebreeder! Dream stealer! Storm Petrel flies So look at us now We endured somehow Astonishing how None of the prophesies ever befell us But he's still on that trip In the lee of a different ship Untroubled by proof Persuading us all That the end is upon us Cassandra! Dream stealer! Joy killer! Lifechoker! Deceiver! Storm Petrel Storm Petrel flies in the storm

I first thought you had added the wrong bird picture here, that it was a pigeon. But then I started to read about this remarkable bird, the storm petrel. It is the smallest seabird there is and that makes your song even sound more than a storm on the sea. Think that bird has got a very hard life. This track is solid and well made as ever, perfectly mixed. And I especially like that power in it. Those guitars!

Damn that's some good experienced songwriting right there folks. Just the metal I like- rockin' but not tiresome. I like the guitar tone and melodies. The parts morph like a Budgie song. Top notch, man. Awesome job, wow!
Storm Patrol? NO! It's STORM PETREL! Heck yeah. Tight, modern metal (without the 2nd cookie-monster vocalist so many recent bands are prone to add) really hits the spot. Really like those big big chords such as at around 4:30ish. Noice! I'll be back for this one again, promise.

Another first class rocker from a master! Powerful production and arrangement. Awesome guitars as always Steve. Love your voice. I can echo what Stoob said about your great drum track - it's a lot of work but boy does it pay off! You are another of SC's gems - a complete and masterful musician - awesome!!!
