Trash-pop, guitar rock and melodic miscellany.
Not so much a band as a bloke with a guitar and a laptop, The Smivets deliver a genre-bending blend of pop, rock, punk, prog and many other monosyllables.

Story behind the song
Part of the Clickers Club "Wannabe" challenge, the choice was obvious for me. The Beatles music permeates just about everything I do. They captivated me from an early age and I still marvel at those songs - I'll never tire of them. Probably the biggest reason for my admiration is they they were the first, biggest and maybe to this day the only band to truly have no genre, and that's also something I try to aspire to. This tune is perhaps a bit more blatant in its use of Beatles stylings than others, but lyrically I'm pretty sure it's something they would never have done.
Lyrics
And he walked away into the twilight world Snakeskin bootheels clicking as he went With all my hopes and fears Stinging in my ears All that I could do was wish him well Where is that laughing child With his sunshine smile And his hair grown wild? Who told that boy he couldn't stay? All that time I thought He was content to follow me But when I looked behind He'd gone away Did I see a darkness In the corner of his eye, The merest hint of shadow Nothing more? And I'm trying not to think About the possibilities, Some things are just easier To ignore Cos he walked away into the twilight world Snakeskin bootheels clicking as he went With all my hopes and fears Stinging in my ears All that I could do was wish him well Maybe all he learned from me Was how I could be played. Did he reach that point Where he could tell That I would give up Every single thing I own In a heartbeat Just to hold him safe and well? What kind of twilight world Are you living in, my son? I don't know who you talk to, Where you go, or what you've done. But if ever you find the need To run to someone You know where to find me And my phone is always on. Where is that laughing child With his sunshine smile And his hair grown wild? Who told that boy that he couldn't stay? All that time I thought He was content to follow me But when I looked behind He'd gone away

You didn't say who you were emulating but there was no need! From the first chord it was instantly recognisable, and appropriately catchy.

always a pleasure to hear your voice and your rocking tracks..you always reminded me more of The Cars though..but you have captured a fab four vibe here :-) very well produced too!! :-D
This starts with a bang and just doesn't let up. Instantly wraps you up and makes you smile. Fantastic Fab Fourness with that enviable touch of the Smivvy sound. My only fault with it lies in the fact that after a few short minutes it ends - please fix that oversight.

Bloody marvelous. The lyrics got me all dewy-eyed. The music's great too, what more could you want from a song.

The opening with vocals from the start is so "Beatlish" that i literally jumped in my seat. Were they back? Did someone find a forgotten tape? But then I recognized your voice, Steve, and as the song progressed, I realized that this was more of a tribute. Not just to the Beatles but to a sound that they were a part of. And most of all, this song is you at your best. Catchy and playful, skilled playing and a signature voice on top. And then that heartfelt story in the lyrics. I can really relate to that, having 3 grown sons of my own! Bravo, Steve!
