Lyrics
When you come of age child In your life you’ll have choices Some not of your creating Hopes and fears still sleeping Will grow without abating. Where ever you go – you will know There’s something that’s binding you To home and to your loved ones Whose prayers are trying to find you. If your fate should find you In so called “fields of glory” A weeping willow’s whisper Will carry home your story, And as its mourning leaves are Gently stroking your peaceful face, Your soul by then departed Will know eternal grace. You may choose your friends child, And call them sisters or brothers, But these were chosen for you, Your homeland father and mother. Where ever you go – you will know There’s something that’s binding you To home and to your loved ones Whose prayers were trying to find you. Original Ukrainian Words © V Symonenko 1935-1963 (1960’s Ukrainian poet, Literary figure & Soviet era Dissident) Music © A Pashkevych. Translation/adaptation © Stepan Pasicznyk December 3rd 2009
