Trash-pop, guitar rock and melodic miscellany.
Not so much a band as a bloke with a guitar and a laptop, The Smivets deliver a genre-bending blend of pop, rock, punk, prog and many other monosyllables.

Story behind the song
This took literally just over one day to write - on a morning walk by a beach the tune arrived in my head unannounced, so I hummed it into my phone. Later that afternoon the lyric was almost done - just a few finishing touches the next day and voila. So, one day to write and two and a half bloody months to record...
Lyrics
Crying through the pain My tears all sorrow cleansing Torn between the raven's wing And the ever fading light Round and round again With the fear that it's never ending Forever destined to be Crying through the pain all my life Say love never dies Well that might be true at least But not Trust: Trust's confined to bed and they've called the priest Still into the maw of the ravening beast Once more Trust leads me To look for romance against the chances Say love is blind Yeah well you got that right But the white stick's been stolen And the guide dog's at the vet I know you're out there somewhere But you haven't found me yet Though I've been sending up distress flares By the thousand every night Crying through the pain My tears all sorrow cleansing Torn between the raven's wing And the ever fading light Round and round again With the fear that it's never ending Forever destined to be Crying through the pain all my life

That guitar/violin/synth break in the middle is awesome. The change of dynamics building up to that peak at 4:50 is doubly so. Wonderful, rich, prog, def.

A very ambitious piece, but I think it lands on it's feet after all. There is some 1970's progrock there, the shifting musical styles and the stops and turns bring back memories of Jethro Tull, Genesis and the synth part reminds me of ELP. It is a very challenging piece no doubt, but it is also a great pleasure to listen to it. Your voice sounds very fragile at times and then it suddenly yells "Crying through the pain" with power and determination. Impressive piece of work. But understandable that it was challenging :)

This is just very enjoyable. In this song you just feel it will never be 100% alright. And the question is what went wrong. Maybe there was something wrong from the beginning. Did you just make it too complicated? And there is so much in here. It feels like you collected all genres and all kinds of ideas in one track. Too many ideas and genres? Steve, I just hear the struggle everywhere in this track and when I read your story as well, I think life of musicians can be really really hard. Thanks for sharing it with us.

Well Steve, you'd never know this track gave you fits 'cause the end results are fantastic. I love that guitar starting at 2:16. The vocals are great. Just a complex and super track! Very impressive.

Thanks for submitting this to the Clickers Club, it's great to hear the background to your creative process - nobody would ever guess the work and complications behind the scenes, all your tracks are perfect hit songs, seamless and brilliantly performed..you make them appear to be effortless, yet we know otherwise!
So many sounds and themes, yet still open and with space to keep the listener's ears happy. That alone takes skill, nevermind the many, many passionate performances and writing scope and vision to put it together. But never mind trying to peek behind the Wizard's curtain, this is a fantastic journey - just shut up and listen to the song.

great intro with a bit of moody Baroque mixed into the Rock ballad vibe, and some beautifully Progressive melody changes right before all the heaviness and drama envelops you. Brilliant work with your trademark spotless lyric/vocal integration Steve!
