Story behind the song
Sort of early-R.E.M.-ish. Inspired by seeing footage of a wine country fire in the Marin hills; I felt bad about the destruction, but there was also an undeniable aesthetic beauty to the blaze. And that’s sort of what this track is about.
Lyrics
WINE COUNTRY FIRES
Music and lyrics by Paul Iorio
Copyright 2013
If I could give you the world
I’d separate the flame from the moth
I’d fix whatever’s my fault
In a Robutussin haze
Glowing like a wine country fire
If I could give you the world
I’d take away all the diseases
They sure won’t be cured by Jesus
Buzzed on Interstate whatever
Watchin’ wine country fires
If I could give you the world
Every fire you erase
Would turn up ion some other place
Drivin’ a precarious grade
In the U.S. of A.
If I could give you the world
I’d make a gas of fire and ice
Turn it into my only vice
Turn a coal into a diamond mine
Watching wine country fires
If I could give you the world
I’d make it rain Sangiovese
But all this smoke is making me lazy
Ride the red sunset to fade
Watchin’ wine country fires
Watchin’ wine country fires
