Trash-pop, guitar rock and melodic miscellany.
Not so much a band as a bloke with a guitar and a laptop, The Smivets deliver a genre-bending blend of pop, rock, punk, prog and many other monosyllables.

Story behind the song
Ti tum ti tiddly tum ti tum.... Inspired by 60s knitwear god Val Doonican, this cautionary tale of fecklessness, greed, drink, and abject stupidity was created for the CBC Celtic challenge March 2013. Once again miserable apologies to my Irish friends and indeed the entire nation of Ireland for my shameful attempts at the accent.
Lyrics
It all seems such an age ago That fateful night in the Barley Mow Our pockets empty and spirits low Despairing of the future When Murphy hatched his marvellous plan (No-one spins them like he can) Held us spellbound to a man With the lure of easy lucre "Lookit, all we have to do Is form a carnival marching crew And prance around for an hour or two In get-ups that we made. I say we give the thing a shot: Last year's best contestant got A 190 Euro pot At the Paddy's Day Parade" We set to with uncommon zeal To make his daring vision real Details never quite revealed Beyond the general scope We borrowed the hats, we made the wings And various other random things All lashed together with hairy string And a liberal dose of hope The final day and nearly done We felt the prize was good as won So to the pub (for just the one) And there our doom was sealed Convinced the landlord to instate The 190 on the slate We'd drunk it all by half past eight And carried on til 3 Against all sense we went ahead With birdcage mouths and pole-axed head Some of the crew were clearly dead Others even worse The rest of us with egg-yolk eyes Tried to focus on the prize Rushing around like blue-arsed flies Mostly in reverse The awful truth we always knew None of us had a bloody clue What we were supposed to do So it all became a farce Father Dooley joined the feud Seeing the chaos that ensued Shouting something terrible rude When they kicked him up the arse There's Murphy, 3 sheets to the breeze An eejit in his dungarees Half his costume round his knees The other half in shreds Then six Romanian chambermaids Farting about on rollerblades Collided with the Fire Brigade And landed on their heads We all collapsed in full assualt Everybody else's fault As the market clock chimed a halt To the whole insane charade The the judges smiled, results in hand Though not entirely what we'd planned: The lot of us permanently banned From the Paddy's Day Parade.

Wonderful Friends Seth and The Smivets, What a delightfully GREAT song. Everyone agrees that this Celtic tune is BRILLIANT - from instrumentals to vocal to lyrics. I can only add that this already recognized SC "Top 10 Song" should ALWAYS be # 1. But it will REMAIN the Best of the Best Celtic Song in our collective music lovers' hearts! It is because of songs like this that I/We "love a parade" - and your parade was/is a Paddy's Day Classic!!!!! Thanks for the Green Treat, and the dl. Bob (and the JBBQ "Guys")

Sounds like you were having a lot of fun creating this one. I like the use of the organ here, it's bringing something very old fashion (the marching drums as well). It's telling a story. Would be very nice to perform with a band in a smokey pub. I wonder if such a pub still exist in Ireland. Very enjoyable!

Easily one of my favs of the night, not just for the fine instrumentation and vocals , but for the incredibly excellent lyrics. Good lyrics are not easy...and you absolutely excel on this one. What a story. Thanks so much for posting them...with my hearing deficit i really love to be able to read and enjoy it all. Superior writing and storytelling. Great tune!!

The music was great...the melody true to form...however, the lyrics were brilliant! I know Rodz already used that word, but they were! You are one of the best lyricists I have ever known. I humbly bow before you!

Absolutely BRILLIANT!!! I haven't laughed so much in months!! :D :D :D Excellent lyrics and the accent was perfect! Love the upbeat party style music which complimented the ensuing chaos of the storyline. Definitely one of my all time favourite SC songs!
