Trash-pop, guitar rock and melodic miscellany.
Not so much a band as a bloke with a guitar and a laptop, The Smivets deliver a genre-bending blend of pop, rock, punk, prog and many other monosyllables.

Story behind the song
Created for the Coconut Blues Club mediaeval challenge Jan 2012 I wrote this tune when I was a teenager; I think that technically qualifies it as mediaeval, at least in my kids' view. It was originally intended as a practice piece to try to improve my guitar playing, ok so that never worked. I always called it a gavotte, but when I researched for this challenge I found that gavottes were not in triple time like this. Bit of a failure all round really. Gavotte it is not, but I am that fool. Never mind I had great fun putting it to different arrangements, morphing and changing it with complete disregard for keys and modality. Also seeing if I could play it at different speeds from a leisurely 60bpm up to a slightly ragged 90! Three cheers once again for Jude Law for setting a cracking challenge to kick off 2012.

This is really ace Seth, So traditional and shows you have a great understanding of the content if this challenge..The guitar playing is bang on the money!!..Wicked!!
A truly wonderful song, Seth! Your masterful playing of most appropriate instruments is TOTALLY MEDIEVAL. You must have created this magnificent song from the historic DNA of your ancestry - and long proud heritage of culture in all of the glorious Arts - especially MUSIC.

Highly creative medieval prog-folk with great dynamics and mid-age melodic flavours. Top guitar shred on these articulated melodies. Reserved for Masters !

"if I could play it at different speeds from a leisurely 60bpm up to a slightly ragged 90!" - you did, and with attitude that fit the theme like a glove!

A-ah, me thinks 'tis a wonderful melody. Blondel on electric guitar instead of lute. This brings to mind the music of Prog rock group, Gryphon ? 'Red Queen to Gryphon Three' ? This is incredibly good Steve. You've won again. A flagon of ale for the Minstrel. :)

An authentic sounding opening for a midieval song not to mention the whole melody sounding like a song that would hav been played in the king's court. Nice progression of sounds.

This is downright entertaining...and to ensure that you weren't beheaded by the monarchy in those days, you had to be! It has a sense of mischief, fun and craziness, all the ingredients for a court entertainer I would imagine. If anything would take their minds off their battles, then this would!

Extra stars for the guitar playing, great sounding fluid technique. Enjoyed the cycles around major/minor, playful like it would have been. Still waiting for you to whack up that drive dial and give it some wind assisted, standing on a rock, guitar hero twiddly... :)

Love the intricacies of the oboe!! Brings to mind a court jester. Great stuff. Reminds me of the band Gryphon.
