Nicholson Guru He hobbled through the streets in the moonlight He never slept until the sun was shining bright Nicholson Guru was someone You never knew what he had done He made up every story that he told He never seemed to care but he always had the savoir faire The gleam in his eyes could save you from the cold Nearly everybody saw a crazy poor old soul But those who knew the difference saw he really had it all He spoke to anybody who would listen Though few that heard his words could recognize the wisdom It’s been a couple of years since I’ve seen that weathered face But I always thought if I needed him I’d find him in the very same place Sometimes I think I see him in the periphery Then I realize as my vision clears that it wasn’t meant to be Nicholson Guru was a man who had his share of kicks at the can But he let it slip away one day
