Trash-pop, guitar rock and melodic miscellany.
Not so much a band as a bloke with a guitar and a laptop, The Smivets deliver a genre-bending blend of pop, rock, punk, prog and many other monosyllables.

Story behind the song
For the CBC Valentine's challenge Feb 2011 - not exactly "mellow guitars and soft gentle keys..." Bit of a cheat this - written last year, but it fit the "love" theme so well I thought I'd put it up. Not based on any true story, it has a bit of an outlaw / gangster thing going on but the theme is fierce, unconditional love, right up to the final sniper shot.
Lyrics
Wake up, Gwen, I stole us some food But the news is not so great - I saw yesterday's paper And it looks like they found the car. They had a funny picture of you Back when you were in school. But you know You know I'll stick with you come what may I'll stick with you now come what may. Oh Gwendolyn Well I don't know how you got that gun Or exactly what you'd done To get us into this in the first place. I believe you've seen some desperate days But that's not what this is all about. We're in this together now: They'll have to catch us to break us apart. To break us apart They'll have to catch us, to break us apart. Oh Gwendolyn Gwendolyn, The end is closing in But if I had my time again I'd change nothing. Oh Gwendolyn, Though you know that we could never win, Like I said, I'd change nothing. Gwendolyn, if we break out now, You know we'll be in the cross-hairs. But they're out there waiting for us And we musn't disappoint them. One last look into your eyes Then just hold hands and run. But you ... you know what this means. You know what this means. At least I won't have to let you go At least I'll never have to let you go Oh Gwendolyn

Steve, you always meet the challenge and go beyond. Love that rhythm guitar sound. Solo is insane! Elvis Costello on steroids. :)

I knew I could count on you to come up with a different angle for a love song - I'm really impressed at the way you created a song about love and loyalty without it having to be "sweet". Superb stuff...and that guitar solo is killer!

WOW - That's what I call an upfront crunchy guitar :). Beautiful work here :) - it rocks :)
This is a brilliant song, Seth! Your rendition of the lyrics in your rockin' voice and backing is most exciting. I truly hated to hear that final shot which ended this super song (I'm a softie for love rock or love on the rocks or - you know what I mean), so I won't just let the music end...I'm about to dl to our JBBQ music player - with much appreciation for the great gift of your SUPER music!

Particularly liked the guitar solo/lines in the middle. Reminded me of Angus Young in places, not just the open string stuff but the picking style choice also (2:30+). Nice one.
