Story behind the song
: Created for the May 30, 2009 Coconut Blues Club Progressive Rock Challenge. A song about Christopher Columbus and his first voyage.
A Special Thanks to three very talented musicians who collaborated with me on this song: Mike Marshall, Jude Law and Ken Sacco for making the Journey with me, Great to have you all on board. For it is always more fun when there?s more than one. The lyrics for the song were adapted from an old children?s poem titled ?1492?, a poem about Christopher Columbus, (author unknown). Final Mastering by Tammy Swindell, Thank you Tammy
"At dawn on an August morn in 1492, three ships The Pinta, The Nina and The Santa Maria, set sail under a Spanish Flag, sailing from Palos Harbor in Spain.
Admiral Christopher Columbus had convinced King Ferdinand and Queen Isabella that his quest to find faster trade routes, would claim new lands for Spain and bring back vast riches in gold, spices and silk and spread the Gospel to those who had not heard.?
?It was a perilous journey into unknown waters. His crew thought there were monsters in the waters. And some thought the world was flat, and that their ships were sailing too far from the shore and would surely fall off the end of the earth.?
In fourteen hundred ninety-two
Columbus sailed the ocean blue.
He had three ships and left from Spain;
He sailed through sunshine, wind and rain.
He sailed by night; he sailed by day;
He used the stars to find his way.
A compass also helped him know
How to find the way to go.
Dialog : Amerigo: "Admiral, I think we're way off course, the clouds have blocked the stars and the compass isn't working, We?ve been heading South for the past 3 three days,.
Columbus: "Amerigo, if you can get us back on course, I will name the first land we discover after you."
Ninety sailors were on board;
Some men worked while others snored.
Then the workers went to sleep;
And others watched the ocean deep.
Amerigo: "Admiral: by tracking the North Star, I have gotten us back on course.
Columbus: "Amerigo, my boy, How would you like to be governor of the new land that we find? I think we shall call it Amerigo"
Day after day they looked for land;
They dreamed of trees and rocks and sand.
October 12th their dream came true,
You never saw a happier crew!
Narrator: "And that's the way it happened 1492, When Admiral Christopher Columbus and his crew, sailed the ocean blue"
