Lyrics
V1 He blew in with his charming smile on a warm October night My lonely heart was quickly blind to the ramblings of his life The darkness was our canopy, an empty field our bed I heard a hopeful future rise in the tender words he said My restless midnight angel asked to make himself a home Leaving those he loved to sleep alone V2 The nights were sweet until I woke to his suitcase on the chair His weathered blue jean pocket held a key to anywhere My foolishness was mocking me with every word he said I tried to catch the western wind but I lost my heart instead My restless midnight angel turned to find himself a home Leaving me to cry asleep alone Bridge So count the towns along the highway remembering where you've been Each one takes you further from your home Could it be the world was waiting right there in your arms? My heart will follow where you roam V3 Cold winds brought the winter snow as the years wore ever on The postmark on the package showed the town where he had gone The heart-shaped locket he returned felt heavy in my hand And on the back it hurt to see our names as one again My restless midnight angel finally found himself a home Leaving me to cry asleep alone

This is really well-written, and I like how the last line of every verse continued to change little by little to tell the complete story. The locket being heavy in your hand was a great line as it brought that "sinking heart" feeling that most have been familiar with at some point or another. Great writing...very pretty melody, as well, especially in the bridge. Vocals sound great, as always.

Dear Dawn, I'm so glad to finally hear from you and that you're OK. I really do miss those folks, like yourself, when you're off and busy with lifes journey. You could say that I truly enjoy the person you are within though we've never met before and probably never will. I'm just one of those who care about my friends and all that they're going through. As for the song,,, BEAUTIFUL! As if you lived the lyrics in my mind.. Melody and structure is excellent and you sing it superbly. I always did enjoy your voice...The song is simply lovely... a reflection of a heartbroken woman that needs to be shared. Please don't be shy or a stranger Dawn.. Keep me posted! You are one of my very favorite writers and friends here at the Click.. Very very tallented... Your Friend, BOB
