This revision was spurred on by the comments of two women (duo) singersongwriters I met in the basement of Gerde's Folk City during the late 70s after they heard me sing the original. In this revised version I tried to say the same thing, but in a more positive way.
Be forewarned -- "Ode to the Dove" has gone thru numerous melody/rhythm changes (as many of the musicians who have recorded various versions w/me will attest to ...). Oddly enough, the original seems to have come full circle.
1981, 2003 dbsongs
One day in fairweather
Some people got together
They decided to try and restore the peace time
they called on the dove
in truth and in love
ah -- they figured that dove could fly ......
They began to enlist
by the word and the gift of knowledge
all people need to be free
the words they are known
sung in strories and poems
I am that I am -- and I shall be
instrumental refraine
for the people they found
after traveling around
up and down life’s various highways
freedom comes from within
to be is to win
and love opens the door to understanding
Chorus
and so we became
and so we became
what we wanted to be
and no pawn in a game
and so we became
and so we became
and they say the world was never the same
(sort of ...)
