Story behind the song
My heart goes out to our brave fighting men and women being used to clean up the mess in Iraq, if not to the geniuses in Washington who used our tax dollars to finance Saddam Hussein's rise to power in the first place, as well as that of the Taliban.
Lyrics
Bring 'Em Back Alive Words and Music by Stan Anderson Well, my daddy fought bravely in the U. S. Navy And he hoped we'd never have to go to war again But in a world full of oppression and power-mad obsessions It's a long-standing tradition that we lend a helping hand. Now I'm the first to disagree with a lot of things I see And that's my right under the Constitution But I'm proud, I gotta say, of those who risk it all each day Protectin' freedoms won back in the American Revolution. (Chorus) Yes, I doubt them politicians, and their polished explanations Concerning all the reasons that we went to war this time But I see brave young men and women On the battle lines a-givin' Their best for their country, and I pray they all survive Let's wrap it up and win this war, and bring 'em back alive. (Break) Now it really seems to me that we oughtta be Doin' more for the soldiers who do so much for us The risks they all take, the sacrifice they make I'll tell ya fourteen bills a month ain't nowhere near enough. They got families far away, and they don't know from day to day If they're gonna make it home to the ones who really care When they're crossin' foreigh borders on someone else's orders In some air conditioned office sittin' on a swivel chair. Those who fight and die for freedom, we're always gonna need 'em While in the human heart the torch of liberty burns So we better take care of 'em, and let 'em know we love 'em, 'Cause there ain't no lastin' peace until the Prince of Peace returns. (2nd Chorus) You bet I doubt them politicians, and their polished explanations Concerning all the reasons that we went to war this time But these brave young men and women, I know they believe in What they're doin' for their country, and it fills my heart with pride Let's wrap it up and win this war, and bring 'em back alive. Tag: We owe our freedom to the Lord, and to men who've fought and died Let's wrap it up and win this war, and bring 'em back alive. Yeah!
