"Yom Shabbat Kodesh Hu" is a traditional song for the Jewish Sabbath day.
I didn't write this song; it's a few hundred years old. I recorded it because I love the genre of Jewish music known as zemirot (Shabbat songs sung throughout the day, especially during meals) and because I enjoy doing vocal arrangements. My friend and recording engineer, Ray Scudero, who has years of experience in making music and recording, came up with the brilliant idea of introducing each voice one at a time and adding an extra go-round of the tune at the end in which each voice drops out one by one.
They're in Hebrew, so I'll summarize them here. This centuries-old song speaks of how wonderful the Sabbath Day is and the rewards for those who observe it. Its last verse, a copyright notice couched in flowery medieval Hebrew, was added to the song after the lyricist won a court case against someone who plagiarized it. It seems that the music business hasn't changed very much.
