Decisions decisions
That was a oft-quoted phrase within my former firm to encourage decisiveness and get things done: "no-one ever got fired for making a decision".
Well this is manifestly untrue - in my experience people only EVER get fired for making decisions - bad ones that is - and I should know.
However we cannot go through life without making any at all and this song is about that.
My family knew all too well what I did for a living by the way, but it was a funny line so in it went.
One bright kingfisher morning
This unfortunate made a decision
Oh what did you let him do that for?
It was met with nothing more than derision
But like my fine blue-feathered friend
Who fishes where he chooses
I no longer need depend
On the big book of excuses
I held Solomon's sword
Against the cord
And made the division.
I lied to my dependants about
The nature of my job for ages
So they weren't sure what I did
But they certainly enjoyed the wages
After that in all honesty
I had to admit deceit
OK not the best policy
But it kept the flip-flops on our feet
It's not as bad as things look
It's the same book
Just different pages
Note to self:
Decide, you fool, decide
Don't let the whispers of vested interests
Be any kind of guide
Whip out Ockam's razor
And swipe it side to side
No-one ever got fired for making a decision
(Unless of course it was the wrong one)
Oh dear
So now you know the plan
I guess our vessels are on course for collision
You might not like the outcome
But at least you understand the position
Ulterior voices
From the scaly throats of reptiles
Sometime our choices
Are better much spent on ourselves
Sorry, this is my call
So sod you all
It's my decision
It's my decision
I'm cutting the cord.
I'm cutting the cord.
