A simple love-lost (cheating) pop-country tune. The idea, "'Wake up' and realize that I'm not sticking around this time."
No real story. Just a conglomeration of various ideas we had been keeping up with for quite some time. We came up with a basic melody first, with the "wake up" idea where it currently sits in the chorus, and the rest of the words fell into place quite nicely after that. Chorus was written first, and then a decent, flowing story line to follow it.
Got my ticket in my right hand,
'Cause I'm Walking out the door.
It's not exactly what we had planned,
But it's not the same anymore.
'Cause things were fine until you ran away.
Now you think you can come back and stay, but
Wake up and smell the coffee
You're not the one for me.
There's other men that I'm sure you'll meet,
But don't let it be me that you're waiting on,
'Cause I'll be long gone.
So you really thought it was so cool
that you'd give me another try
Well that's great, but I got news for you,
I'm not playing your games this time.
Soon you'll realize what you ain't got
When you wake up to find that you're here and I'm not, so
Wake up and smell the coffee
You're not the one for me.
There's other men that I'm sure you'll meet,
But don't let it be me that you're waiting on,
'Cause I'll be long gone.
You've been walking around in a trance,
Lost in this false romance.
Girl you need to wake up and see,
The lonely one won't be me.
Wake up and smell the coffee
You're not the one for me.
There's other men that I'm sure you'll meet,
But don't let it be me that you're waiting on,
'Cause I'll be long gone. (vamp to fade out)
