A woman unlucky in love... sung beautifully by Parysa Pourmoneshi.
classical instrumental soundtrack stage james mitchell broadway musical standards
Songs in search of a stage... The music of James B. Mitchell. Music for the cabaret, stage, and small instrumental groups. Soft jazz vocals.
Pianist by training, songwriter by passion, and a lifelong lover of music. My style tends to fall broadly into the "Musical" genre, with occasional ventures outside my comfort zone, but my passion has always been music for the stage.

Story behind the song
Strangely, this song was inspired by hearing someone hum. There was something in her voice that had a story in it. I can't explain it, but this is the song that came out.
Lyrics
Lady's Lament Copyright 1994 by James B. Mitchell Words and Music by James B. Mitchell Time after time I head straight for the man that I know treats me low; And so I go on, It's a sad little show... I know. Opening scene, curtain up and the man of my dreams walks in view. Handsome and strong, he's too good to be true. We dodge and weave like two fireflies on a summer's night, So afraid to beleive what we say. Spirits meet and our souls soar on a wingless flight, Hearts forget that it's only a play. Oh, what a fool! To be fooled once again by those tired old lines, In the hope that I'll find What I'm after time after time. And so we come to the last scene in a sad romance, No one speaks, there's just too much to say, One more waltz 'cross the ballroom for our farewell dance, Curtain down, and the man just walks away. Lonely reprise, I'm alone once again and I'm down on my knees, Begging, please help me find What I'm after time after time. Why can't I ever find What I'm after time after time?
