Story behind the song
After hearing Rebbe Soul's version (Bruce Burger), I was inspired both by the melody itself and its meaning, to do my own arrangement. In working out the chords to support the melody, it developed into a solo classical-guitar piece, which is here doubled on 12-string guitar. If I ever remix it, I'll separate the guitars more; as it stands, I have the 12 slightly to the side and 'behind' the nylon. There are actually two tracks of bass guitar in the piece, one a 4-string, one a 5-string, playing in harmony. The idea was to not overpower the song so the basses are mixed pretty low. The drum machine part was also simplified and made more sparse so as to not interfere with the intent of the song. The whole first part, as far as the drum track is concerned, contained only a click track until the tamborine enters. An interesting piece which still holds much meaning for me.
