I had a few original compositions floating around in my head so one day I sat down and started recording.
All my music is played by hand except for a few of the rhythms; I don't use programmable synthesizers. I opted for this approach because I wanted to go for a more personal and less mechanical sound.
It all began in 2009 in my small apartment with the encouragement of my then sweetie.
I have just recently started playing live at a few local venues... Aside (formerly Conspire), on Wednesdays, Yucca Tap on Mondays, Long Wong's on Thursdays....
I would have to say Enya and Suzanne Ciani are big influences. But mostly I write whatever is in my head. I'm a fan of the '90s and of the whole singer-songwriter genre so I guess there's some influence from there.
My first two albums I used a laptop, a Yamaha PSS-270 keyboard, and a $10 mic. Not a very quality setup but it was what I could afford. Since then I've acquired a Casio WK-200 and a WK-500, and an old analog Radio Shack mixer with a couple of quality mics. Also, I had driver issues with my sound card so I got one of those external USB sound cards and it does the job nicely! For recording my third and fourth albums, this setup has worked out really well. I use Audacity to mix my tracks and export them to MP3 format.
