The Michael Butler Project is a rock' n roll band based on the west side of Manhattan. They came together to record "Virginia Louise" after seeing a Ray Davies show at Irving Plaza. The song sounds like Wilco meets The Jam.
Michael Butler is a regular on the New York circuit and his hair band "Horsepower" was a major force in the 80's at CBGB's.He has currently unplugged his electric guitar, grown his dreads and plays a power packed set of originals and Bob Marley songs at coffee house in Manhattan.
Michael Butler, Gene Shaw and Joe Tizzio went out to see Ray Davies at Iriving Plaza. After some scotch on the rocks during the opening set, the boys decided to settle down at the back bar upstairs in the club. They order glasses of wine to slow down the tempo during intermission. The room was packed for Ray and the crowd was revved up for the 2nd half of the show. There was a very interesting young lady that entered the VIP section that caught everyones attention. No one knew her name as she sauntered pass everyone to make her way backstage with the band and never to be seen again. She made a serious impression on Michael because he started beating on the table with a melody in his head. He didn't know her name, but she she blew in like a summer breeze never to return. He order a bottle of wine from the club to start the 2nd half of the show. The name of this wine was Virginia Louise and he decide to call the mysterious women in his song Virginia Louise because the wine reminded him of this women. A women you would want to know better, but she walks in and out of your life with many questions unanswered.
