Process a.k.a. P, born Loyace Foreman III, grew up on the Westside of Chicago. At an early age music sparked "P's" curiosity becoming a hobby after studying piano in school. "When I was young I was able to rig a boombox enabling it to play a track's music and not the vocals. I remember being fascinated with my new discovery. After listening to tapes like the New Jack City soundtrack and Salt-N-Pepa, I was fascinated. I spent hours a day poppin' in tapes and trying to figure out how beats were made" said P. "I would listen to the melodies and begin conceptualizing molodies and drum patterns in my head."
Attending both middle school and high school in Saint Paul, Minnesota, P met Chauncy who was a class mate at Washington Middle School. Throughout the first months of their 7th grade year P and Chauncy would build a relationship lasting even til this day. By the time P reached 10th grade, Chauncy's brother, Ray, introduced him to a music composition computer program: "Fruity Loops". He quickly went to work exploring the program and within weeks made his first, as P describes it, "fire" beat. "I didn't know what half the stuff I was looking at was. In school I was taught notes, scales, bars, octaves and whatever else to learn how to play music. The first thing I learned how to use on the program was a vinyl interface used to warp sounds similar to how a DJ mixes records live." Talk about starting from scratch.
