Xybor & the Cosmonauts is the alter- cyber-ego of Terry Atkinson, a multi-instrumental musician, songwriter, producer and multimedia artist. With a couple of exceptions, all of the music you find available by Xybor & the Cosmonauts was written, played, recorded and produced by Terry.
Listening to Xybor & the Cosmonauts, you will find musical influences to be quite diverse, laced with infusions of rock, jazz, fusion, blues and pop. Specific artists that come to mind include Pink Floyd, Yes, Miles Davis, Charles Mingus, Medeski Martin & Wood, Mahavishnu Orchestra, Led Zeppelin, Beatles, Paul Simon, Bowie, Elton John, Motown, Otis Rush, and classic vocal stuff such as Sinatra, Nat King Cole, and Cole Porter.
The music is typically guitar-driven, and can be quirky at times. The lyrics tend to be thoughtful and clever with a strong message, typically one that yanks at your social conscience. The most recent single, Capitalism is Eating Itself, zeros in on the current economic meltdown. Watching the Watchers takes a critical view of the surveillence society we find ourselves in. Cult of Personality considers the wierd cache we place in public figures and personalities.
