@gjreed51
I was born in Pennsylvania 1951, raised in Ohio, served six years in the Navy nuclear submarine program before having a career in commercial nuclear power.
Played in several bands since the 1960's and began writing my own stuff in the 70's. Recordings of a couple of the bands I was in can be found on my website www.gjreed.com. One of my songs made it to the top 15% of the American Song Festival when it was around. Worked in the nuclear industry and raised a family over the years, and am now retired. Still enjoy music.

Another Altoona Teen Band
Dec 29, 2023
I last told you about the Lost Breed, a teen band I was in from Altoona, PA. This time I’ll let you know about a follow-up band from 1969 that we called Time Peace. I did a search in Newspapers.com to see if I could find it in the newspapers, but instead I was surprised to find another band using the same name (also in PA). This coincidence might have occurred due to the Young Rascals coming out with an album called Time Peace (which is probably where we got the idea to use that as the name of our band). The Altoona Time Peace band had the same members as Lost Breed (that is Bill Hunter Bass, Ken Civils keyboards, Jeff Crownover drums, and George Reed (me) on guitar) with the exception of the lead singer. We first had Kathy Hunter (Bill’s sister) doing the lead singing for us for awhile, and then we changed to Bobby Gates. That’s who you see in the pictures below. Now if you don’t want to hear about a website I have, stop here; but if you would like to hear a recording of the song Timepiece by the teen band called Time Peace from Altoona, feel free to visit my website “www.gjreed.com that has a recording from several bands I was in over the years. In addition to Time Peace, there is a recording from another teen band I was in called Martha (named from Paul McCartney’s dog) and another from a band we called the Amazing Picnic. They were both home-based in Altoona, PA, around the 1970 to 1971 time frame. Then there are two other bands that I played in that are also listed on the website from later in my life as an adult. Anyhow, getting back to Time Peace, you may enjoy listening to the Timepiece song. I like it because after about 4 minutes into it, Ken and I do a joint lead, where the notes he plays on the organ and the ones I play on the guitar are the same. It made for an interesting duo. Enjoy!
FYI, a Teen Band from Altoona
Dec 29, 2023
I (like many) was in several teen bands. My first one was where I grew up near Cleveland, Ohio. Then in 1967 I moved to Altoona, Pennsylvania, and immediately got into another teen band which was called “The Lost Breed. We had a good time and played several places around town. A friend of ours even helped us make a homemade album not for public sale but only enough copies to give to the band members. I still have my copy. We didn’t stay together for very long, but there was one thing we did that I thought was pretty cool. It was around 1968, we performed as the opening band for a show at the Oriental Ballroom in Gallitzen, Pennsylvania, that featured a popular band in the country at the time called Gary Puckett & the Union Gap. The lost breed band members were Gary Yon lead singer, Bill Hunter Bass, Ken Civils keyboards, Jeff Crownover drums, and George Reed (me) on guitar.
