This talented artist is known throughout the southern region for his radiant energy while awing his audiences on stage. From singing, dancing, writing and producing, Marq J’s timeless effort towards perfection continues to greaten. The 6-ft. southern gent hails from Hattiesburg, MS, by way of New Orleans, LA.
Marq-J developed an inspiration for good music at a young age when his parents operated a popular nightclub in Hattiesburg, MS. His siblings shared positions at the establishment with the brother as the DJ, the sisters as waitress and dancing showgirl. It wasn’t long before the entertainment bug literally bit him.
Marq J began playing the piano, the violin and the trumpet in the school orchestra. As an adolescent, he began creating dance routines, writing and producing his own lyrics and beats. In 1995, he produced his first stage production and performed as the opening act for Kut Klose and Trisha Covington. Immediately following his performance WJMG 92.1 FM New Orleans, LA (Host of the event) received numerous calls requesting the unforgettable sultry voice of Marq J.
He relocated to Houston, Texas to become a host for the Music Business Mixers for Urban Beat Magazine. Through the conventions, Marq J was able to mix and mingle with some of the top music moguls in the industry, gathering all the dos and don’ts in his venture to stardom.
