I love gospel hip hop and r&b music I love great singers. I learned the art of d.j.ing as an early teen. But i remember hip hop(rap) songs from the mid to late 70s. Fatback King Tim III was 1 of the first songs i heard. Blowfly was the craziest mc story tellers I ever heard. i remember memorizing the whole song. When sugarhill dropped rappers delight, I loved it but knew that better would come. Grandmaster flash and the Furious Five made me realize that rap was more than a bunch of made up words(hip hop da hippy to da hiphop....skittly be bop we rock the shooby do), Flash and the furious brought the real and i could tell the difference. Then I heard the Treacherous3, Funky four and all the real artist started making records and I was happy to hear this new form of music. I grew up mostly on RNB in the 70s listening to WVKO in Columbus. I miss the days when radio would play more than just the songs that the record labels paid to play. I dont wanna make a list of artist because i would do a disservice to too many artist if I forgot to name any. But i think it was the greatest decade of music for blacks. At that time also it was inevitable to escape the Sunday sounds of my mothers (spiritual) programs in the morning before Church service. It was during that time that i learned how to tape music of the radio. My mother would tape songs off the radio by placing the tape player up to the radio. You could hear every thing going on in the house on the tapes.
