If you haven't experienced a performance of Galveston's poet laureate; now is your chance! If you have, you know what I'm talking about. This is the man who has captured the true essence of life on this large sandbar, in the Gulf of Mexico, in musical form. Galveston Music Scene PRESS RELEASE: June 20, 2006 OPERATION HELMET - WASHINGTON, DC JD Richards is not only a prolific writer, he's also an energetic and giving part of the community, a dynamic performer and a songwriter with rare understanding of life and the ins and outs of relationships. The one thing that JD loves as much as writing and meeting new friends is living on his island. Moving back to Galveston rather than his hometown of Beaumont added years to his life. JD lives in Galveston and writes frequently sitting on the Galveston Seawall looking out at the Gulf of Mexico. He says with a wink and a smile that He was born at the start and then he got older which he discovered at an early ageÃ. Such are JD-isms and punctuate his performances. He sees life with a twist and a tongue firmly in cheek. His earliest memory of music were Elvis doing his thing and The Big Bopper when he was a DJ in Beaumont and JD would sneak his transistor radio under his pillow to listen at night. He grew up in an area with a rich musical history - Janis Joplin, Johnny Preston, Johnny and Edgar Winter, and George Jones; just to mention a few.
