Anita Marie began singing at the age of 6 when her father brought home a record by Judy Garland, and she quickly fell in love with the song "Over the Rainbow". This gave birth to her passion for all music, and more specifically jazz. Shortly thereafter, she began singing in her church choir.
By age 12, her mother decided Anita needed an instrumental outlet for her music, and provided piano lessons, which continued until she found that playing by ear was more conducive to her creativity. She started writing songs as a teenager when she found it useful as a therapeutic outlet for the heartbreaks and teenage angst she experienced. She continued singing with various choirs and church bands throughout her life, where she often earned the nickname "The Harmony Machine".
All through her life, Anita was mesmerized and intrigued with the songs that were written with deep and poignant lyrics, by artists like Janis Ian, Joni Mitchell and Linda Ronstadt. "The song, 'Cactus Tree' I feel is one of the greatest lyrical works of modern times. It's wonderful to have a song with a beautiful melody, but if the lyrics are well-written and convey a deep message from the heart, then you've found the gold at the end of the rainbow."
Most recently, Anita has been performing at some of the local jazz venues in the Atlanta area with some of the best jazz musicians in the world, while recording her own compositions in her home studio.
