I started playing guitar and writing songs in the seventh grade, and was intrigued with rhyme and matching thoughts. I loved poetry, especially as it related to my world and contemporary subjects. For the first few years my songs followed the popular route–with lyrics about love, heartache and the like. In 1970 I had a life-changing encounter with Jesus Christ and suddenly wanted my music to reflect what I was experiencing on a spiritual level.
My music took a marked turn with a distinct narrative style. I think it can best be described as spiritual folk, with an heavy emphasis on acoustic guitar and blended vocals. I write all of my own material and use it to convey what I am experiencing in life.
Over the years I’ve come to know that God places songs in my heart, and that if I don’t sing them, or try to suppress them, I will wither and die, emotionally and spiritually. So, I have no choice but to write and sing about the God I know.
