Mak Ray has been described by fans as masterful, mesmerizing, and compelling; a lyrical poetic with clever rhymes, an agile flow, and a charismatic stage presence. It's been some time since hip-hop was known for being both conscious and playful, or both forceful and sensual yet Mak Ray brings all those elements to the table while still being able to “get grimey” as noted by Public Enemy’s Professor Griff. Today, this Georgia-born, Chattanooga raised hip-hop artist is building on the local success of his most recent mixtape, 12TwentyONE12, and has released his debut single A.D.T.C with plans to complete his first EP by Mid2014.
Mak Ray has spent the past few years working to perfect his craft making music that is both conscious relatable to other young people. His influences include J Cole, Wale, and Ace Hood. Although he is most often classified in the genre of hip-hop, Mak Ray also has a passion for spoken word which shines through on his musical projects and at many of his live shows where it is common for him to show off his poetic prowess with a few minutes of insightful free-form verse.
Mak Ray’s recent performances have been at venues throughout Atlanta, GA and the middle Tennessee area. He recently teamed up with the live band Black Umbrella creating an even more powerful, energetic and dynamic experience for concert crowds. Their members include: Jeffrey Owens – drums, Corey Foster – keyboard, Gil Costello – guitar, Montez Freeman – keyboard, and Chris Siegler–bass
