Time to move on. I have been wasting so much energy on being angry about my upbringing, that one minute I graduated high school, then before I knew it, my 23rd birthday had arrived. One thing that helped me through the hard times was a pencil and a piece of paper. I met poetry, and we have been best friends ever since. When my ears first heard Tupac all I heard was a poem being told over music. My love affair with words had been born. Perseverance has been essential in my journey to climb the mountain that only few could say have reached the top, but if they can do it, so can I. Studying rhythm and calculating how many syllables can fit in a measure, and listening to all types of music over the years has made me truly appreciate the art. I began to create poems that I converted into songs, and hip hop fit my style like a glove. I don’t care for stereotypes or cliches, God put me here to entertain. So I made the transition from writing songs to performing them, provided I was able to find a venue that would want a (then) inexperienced kid who had no idea how to perform, but had great lyrics. Corey Tauriac, a producer out of Spring, Texas was very blunt about what I needed to do to have a stage presence. I listened and adjusted, and sought venues, which I got. I frequented open mic nights all over Houston, and competed in local hip hop events and talent competitions in which I did fairly well.
