Saxophone/ Clarinet player Rainer Theobald from Berlin Germany raised in a little town called Alsfeld/ Germany .
Born on 01.03.1960 he took flute lessons at the age of six.
Listend early to classical music, soul and later on to Jazz from Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Wayne Shorter, Weather Report or Archie Shepp.
1972 he startet with the clarinet and already in 1973 joined the local electric-jazz band GRABHUND.
Played,toured and recorded a single and LP with that band until 1981.
Lived and played at the best Jazz venues in Frankfurt.
Later on he went to Berlin, started there to teach saxophone and clarinet.
Played with bass player JAY OLIVER , that worked with Steve Lacy,
Pam Shiner, Peter Kowald and the best of the Free-Jazz scene.
Formed his own Punk-Jazz group COAL , won prizes with them and opened the 14.Hofheimer Jazzfestival
ahead of Sun Ra Arkestra.
Studio work with well known bands like ELEMENT OF CRIME and TV Shows with ALPHAVILLE followed.
He formed several other funk and jazz bands like The"O"s, BIG BLOW 7, ART BOLDEN QUARTET.
Rainer Theobald now lives in Berlin as saxophone/clarinet player, composer,texter, bandleader and manager
often booked as solo sax player for high class events at parliament, golf clubs, etc.
