An artist of sorts – painter, writer & composer – I’ve worked in many areas over the past 30 years, including the animation industry... but, it’s only now – though a long hard road still lies ahead – that all my hopes of being a creative professional seem likely to be realised.
I was born in November, 1950, in Newcastle-upon-Tyne, Tyne & Wear, England of Irish parents (from County Roscommon, Rep of Ireland). Coming from a farming background, my father had his roots in the countryside, while my mother's folks (the McGees) lived in the fine town of Boyle.
Nature intended me to be a music composer – but an unholy alliance of upbringing & education decided otherwise. As a boy, I was taught piano by my mother to Grade 3 (‘With Merit’) – but was prevented from continuing by my father (with the best of intentions, of course) – so, a decade later, reluctantly, I went to art school instead of music college. Bad move! In Leeds!! Worse move!!!
I’ve been various types of civil servant, trained as a secondary school teacher, & worked for over 10 years in the animation industry. Now, though suffering from OSA, I aid & abet my wife Janis in her work as a driving instructor whilst trying to pursue my true vocation in the arts.
Though happily married, I am unhappily stuck in Manchester. Even so, I am blessed with great relatives, a beautiful sister Shelagh (my other sister Eileen, who had Downs Syndrome, died early 2008), a wonderful wife Janis, & some superb friends.
