The story of Soul Essence began in 1997 when, through mutual friends, Andrew Kwon was introduced to Dennis Agustin to form an R&B group. The two grew up in Portland, OR and quickly became friends forming a trio with another member. Soul Essence began by singing the national anthem in acapella during school sports events. In 1998, Andrew left for Korea to pursue his music career by joining a pop group called SPR. Dennis continued singing solo and with other musicians. In June of 2000, Andrew returned after releasing an album and a single because he was unhappy with the lifestyles of the entertainment industry. He came back to the US and reunited with Dennis to continue making music. The group, now a duo, performed at nightclubs and lounges while working on their first album together. In January 2003, the group released their debut album A New Beginning. This album consists of 14 tracks with ballads, and Up tempo R&B with hard Hip-hop beats. They were able to receive help from a well known songwriter in Korea such as Julie Jae (Producer of Finkl, Fly to the Sky) and Mad Soul Child, however all the songs were written by the group. In 2010, Soul Essence began recording another album. They are currently working with Producer Youngjin Choi from Future Culture Entertainment in Los Angeles, CA, and expect to release it in 2011. Soul Essence have opened up for Gary Valenciano and Carol Banawa.
