Mobile, Alabama is a city of endless hip hop potential. However, it lacks the interest of major record companies. This is due mainly to the perception that Alabama doesn’t have a thriving hip hop community. These negatives were some of the fuels that Mike Maven (Michael Francis) used to power his ambition. Falling asleep at night with his headphones playing 2pac or UGK is what initially sparked his interest in rapping. Countless days of coming home from school with suspension letters, some even threatening expulsion, often left Mike alone in his bedroom with his music as his only companion. “Yeah I was kinda troublesome as a kid” chuckles Mike. His parents being natives of New Orleans, Louisiana, were very distinct about the path they wanted him to follow. As a young man of about 13 years of age, Mike’s mother had to practically force him to take piano lessons. He reluctantly agreed, not knowing that this was the real beginning of music becoming an integral part of his life. He realized that music came natural for him, and that he also had the God-Given talent of being able to play by ear! Mike grew to love music, his music, and it was this passion that also influenced his decision to attempt music producer. “Yeah it’s crazy. I mean to have a gift that you really never knew you had. I never would have believed production would come so naturally to me. Sometime I make a track, and then I sit back, and I am like Damn! Where did that come from?” explains Ace.
