Morgan Taylor Reid is a modern day “piano man” with a youthful passion to create innovative music. When asked to describe his music Reid rather pick up an instrument to play for you or pull up his latest recording session on his computer, than try to describe his musical style in words.
For a young all-American guy, from a small town in Northern California, Reid sure has a deep and mature understanding for the art of music. To Reid’s family it became very clear early on in his life, that he had a musical gift. Ever since his grandmother gave him a mini keyboard on his third Christmas, music has been like a second language for Reid. Upon receiving the keyboard, Reid was instantly able to play back the melodies from Christmas songs note for note with no training whatsoever, as a 3 year old. From the age of four, Reid had spent almost every day practicing the piano to a metronome. As a result of developing his musical aptitude at such a young age, Reid has become an intelligent musician with impeccable rhythm and the ability to immediately recognize musical notes by ear. He’s also taught himself to play other musical instruments including the guitar at the age of thirteen, followed by the bass, synthesizers, mandolin, drums and many other percussive instruments. Growing up, Reid was extremely influenced by his mother’s obsession with the latest in Top 40 Pop Music and his father’s love of classic artists such The Beatles, Elton John and The Eagles. These musical influences inspired Reid to start writing songs at the age of 11.
Nowadays, as a multitalented singer, songwriter, producer and musician, Morgan Taylor Reid is constantly involved in several musical endeavors at a time. Primarily based in Los Angeles, California, Reid has written an produced several songs for artists like Shane Harper (AMI/Universal), Zac Poor (Universal/Motown), South Jordan (Island/Def Jam), Kandice Melonakos (Epic), Plug In Stereo (3crown/Warner Music Group) and several indie artists. Recently he has produced songs for award winning songwriter Georgio Moroder who is best known for his work on films like Top Gun, Never Ending Story, and Scarface. And in April 2011, Reid was flown to Miami, Florida to work at the Hit Factory with the famous producer RedOne (Lady Gaga, Jennifer Lopez, Lil Wayne, Enrique Iglesias, etc.). While there he spent a week writing and co-producing with RedOne for his newly signed band 7Lions.
The best way to experience the raw talent of Morgan Taylor Reid is to see his live solo performances. He has an incredible ability to captivate his audience with intricate acoustic guitar melodies; his fast fingered piano skills and his bright, soulful vocals. His current solo album Simply Human reveals a softer side of Reid, the album’s mellow singer/songwriter vibe allows the listener to reflect on the emotions Reid is trying to convey with each song. This heartfelt indie/acoustic style EP has gotten Reid lots of recent media attention, in addition to a few songs being played in independent films, Reid’s song “Stay Where You Are” was recently used for a Levi’s Jeans Campaign and his song “Brighter” will be featured in the Season Seven Finale of the popular network television show Grey’s Anatomy on ABC.
Morgan Taylor Reid continues his success as a songwriter and producer, but is looking forward to flourishing as an artist in the near future. He is currently working on a new solo album that he says is bringing out the fun side of his himself. This EP will lean more in the direction of alternative rock with upbeat hits that’ll make you want to dance!
