Born and raised in Oakland California, Marquette Hudson started playing instruments at an early age. At the age of 8 years old, and after listening to music from Grandmaster Flash and Kurtis Blow, Shiftkit started writing his first rhyme. Calling himself Kette, soon after he would be in school battle rapping with other to make a name for himself. By the age of 14 he already had a style that was respected by friends and family. The respect had a friend introduce him to a DJ that worked with many others from different cities. One of the DJs that was around took note of Shiftkit and started focusing on his songs.
In 1992 Shiftkit teamed up with Mac Ted and formed the duo T.K.O. (Ted & Kette form Oakland) with their EP titled “Lets Get Ready To Rumble” on E&T Records.. Performing throughout Northern California the duo was cut short due to Shiftkits continued run in with the law. However in 1995 the former T.R.U member Milk Man, took on Shiftkit as one of his members of “Da Goonz”, then releasing his EP titled “Reminisce” on Major Muzik Records.
It would be a DJ from Shiftkits younger days that guided him for the spotlight. DJ Igor Beatz who in 1990 created Bottom of tha Bassment Productions started recording Shiftkit first album in 1996. But the law put a constant hold on his career.
In 2001 Shiftkit completed his first album titled “You Aint Gotta Like It” with catchy song like “Sunshine”, “Yo Potna”, “Supacaliforniaphatt”, and the hit “We Ride”. But thing too
