The Berated are Jon Pelcher and Matt Metzler, a band that fits into it's self-proclaimed musical genre of "Industrial Death Pop". The duo have worked under two previous project names; Smegma (2003-2004) and PseudoCephalic (2004-2008); the latter gaining a modest following on Myspace and releasing the studio album "Industrial Death Pop, Disc 1" in 2006.
Since few people knew how to spell and/or pronounce the medical dictionary-derived "PseudoCephalic"(which roughly translates to "fake head" or "dildo"), they changed their name to The Berated in 2008. With the new name came the noticeable change in their sound: GUITAR. Jon, having had previous guitar-playing experience, took on the responsibility of adding this vital component to the band's array of instruments.
Within a year, Jon had created DOZENS of tracks (some were merely pre-work warm-ups while others eventually made their way onto the albums). Sifting through the vast collections of brutal experimental noise tracks, harmonic ballads, rock anthems and audio chaos was Matt's self-imposed role, which meant hours of post-production and mastering. But he doesn't mind ;).
Over the past few months, the band has made leaps forward with the project, now performing live shows (their presence at this year's PsychoStock in Sweet Home, OR left quite an impression on the locals) and consolidating their tracks into specifically-themed albums. "Pitch Black Heart Attack" is their latest album release.
