I am not a musician--I am a fan of musicians, particularly independent musicians who go their own way, making their own good music. Dead Poets Society is a particular favourite of mine, although I have to disclose here in the interests of honesty that I discovered them after finding out they had written a tune (and filmed a video) based on one of my novels. This is a great honour for any writer, especially when it's a tune and video as terrific as "Synners," although I highly recommend all their work. Music is very important to me; I need it to work and I always have something playing while I'm writing. I am partial to electronica of all kinds. I am also probably the only little old lady you'll ever know of who likes rap, rap-metal, speed-metal, speed-garage, and industrial/machine/noise (I may be the last remaining fan of a band called Hitting Birth, whom I saw in performance in Kansas City, opening for Elliot Sharpe at the Rhumba Box; they played power saws on grocery carts, along with other, more conventional instruments--I still play the one cd of theirs that I own). Other favourites besides DPS, HB, and Elliot Sharpe include Sister Machine Gun and Chris Randall solo, Alabama 3, Blue Cheer, Miranda Sex Garden, and Nurvuss.
