Fat Freddy's Cat started as a session group for local songwriter/guitarist, Steve Harris in 1995-96. Original members Al Banfield and Pat Kelley worked with Steve to record CDs of his original work, until cancer took his life in 1999. Phyllis Cox and C W Creasey came to the studio to help complete the last of those songs, along with Steve's brothers Dan, Jim, and George, Jeff Cartwright, and Lance Shaffner. After completion of the CD, "FOREVER FRIENDS, the Steve Harris Band," the band played some live shows under the same name. A second CD was recorded, "A NEW DAY, A NEW BEGINNING" and a few more gigs followed. Jeff and Lance had other interests and amicably left the band. Scott Arney came into the group at about the same time. More songs were written, more shows booked and the band changed the name of the group to reflect the new line-up/music. Lots of ideas were thrown around before they decided on the name, FAT FREDDY'S CAT, after a cartoon character created by Gilbert Shelton in his "Fabulous Furry Freak Brothers@" comic series. It was a purposely obscure choice, but fit nicely into local music scene. FFC has billed itself as "the Wabash Valley's Most Obscure Band." Playing festivals and the rare club gig, the group has concentrated on writing and recording music, as opposed to the grueling chore of weeklygigging. The style is a recombinate original rock. (Try to condense 100+ years of experience?) Enjoy!
