I got hooked on music when I first heard The Beatles, Rolling Stones, Kinks etc. way back in the early 60s and pestered my parents until they finally bought me a small, steel stringed acoustic guitar for Xmas. While all my schoolmates were keen music fans and really into the clothes, hairstyles and buying 45s, none of them actually played an instrument; there was nobody to ask and no place to go, I ended up teaching myself.
Moving to Germany at age 14, I didnt have a guitar for 3 years
(the neck bracing of my childhood guitar had detached, placing the strings a mile from the fretboard and rendering the instrument unplayable).
At age 17 I bought my first electric guitar (a japanese Stratocaster lookalike) and my first amplifier (an EKO 20 watt combo amp) and started playing in local bands. In my early 20s I switched to playing pop music in dance halls. Constantly learning new songs (as one is expected to play the current #1 hit) has been a great teacher over the years and certainl
