KIRK
Kirk, born Benjamin Kirk, is a Chicago native rapper. He is 25 years old, and has been rapping since the age of 16. Growing up in Chicago, Kirk learned the streets at such a young age. Guns, gangs and drugs were a major part of his surroundings, which provides legitimacy to his lyrics.
Kirk’s father is serving life in prison for murder; he began serving his sentence when Kirk was still a growing kid. This forced Kirk to become a man when he was still a child. He understood his responsibilities; his job was to take care of his aunt with a mental disability and his uncle with polio, learning the struggle of life early on.
Two major events in Kirk’s life that affect him and his songs occurred almost back to back. His brother was shot in killed on the very same block him and Kirk grew up on. Then, not to long after, his daughter Deja was born. The blessing of this life after such a tragic death was a sign from God that Kirk has a higher calling.
From then on Kirk pursued a music career aggressively, even more than before. He began working on his first ever album, “Breaking and Entering”. A short time thereafter, the 18 track album was done. The album received acclaim from local acts, fans, and well known DJ’s saying it was “extremely high quality”, “real rap”, and “the best thing in the city”.
With this, Kirk solidified his position as one of the forces to be reckoned with on not only the Chicago rap scene, but the world music scene as well.
