I was recently interviewed by a writer representing a new website which, he claimed, combines the best elements of YouTube with those of Twitter. I include below an extract from the interview for YouWitter.com, conducted on April 1st. YW: Can we begin with your new material? What’s ‘Master of Disguise’ about? LMF: It’s about 4 minutes long. YW: No, I mean, what are the main ideas or themes? LMF: Oh, I see. Well, the song is about how we all wear masks for one another and how nobody really knows who we are. For example, I’m wearing a mask for you just now and you could be wearing a mask for me but I might wear a different mask for someone else who could also be wearing a mask for me but that mask might be different if he were wearing it for you who might also be wearing a mask different to the one you might be wearing for me. YW: Most of your lyrics are in the first person. Is there any reason for this? LMF: Well, that’s because there’s only me in the band. I sing and play everything, you know. If there was a second person or a third person in the band who could sing, then I’d probably write second and third person songs. Even fourth person. The possibilities are infamous. YW: Your knowledge of world and current affairs has been compared to that of former President George W Bush. LMF: Thank you. YW: Can you tell me what you know about Sierra Leone? LMF: She won ’The X Factor’, didn’t she? Great voice. I think she’s one of my MySpace friends.
