Folk-alternative singer/songwriter with textured vocals and soul baring lyrics. www.annedavismusic.com
Jackson, Miss. native, Anne Davis' new self-produced album, Letters, Prayers, and Journal Entries, a compilation of thought-provoking upbeat tempos and ballads from the "folk-alternative" artist, has been turning ears as it has traveled throughout the U.S. and beyond by receiving quite favorable college radio airplay. Davis wrote all fifteen tracks, and the "organic feel" of the melodies is attributed to the defining instruments you'll find on the album.
"What I really wanted to go for was to put together a project using only real instruments....and that meant no compromise with using any type of fabricated sounds, including drum machines." And, that's exactly what you're going to hear--such instruments as the cello, violin, upright acoustic bass, mandolin, accordion, penny whistle and the uilleann pipe on the CD. "I wanted everything to be real....for me, as an artist, it only made sense for the production of the project to be as soul-baring as the lyrics."

8) The most significant concert that I've ever been to was an Amy Grant concert during her "Straight Ahead Tour" when I was in the 7th grade. 9) I love "taking tea" and especially in a real china teacup with saucer...perhaps it's the English in me. (I am part Welsh). 10) I really, really LOVE the ocean, sand between my toes, and the smell of saltwater in the air. I love to deep sea fish, too. But, I've become a little bit shy about wading out too far in the water because of sharks. I think I've heard one too many stories... 11) For some reason, I have never really enjoyed cooking...like hardly ever. Well, except maybe fun holiday cookies....I already feel bad for my future husband. Really hope he loves to cook! 12) People have always told me their secrets and poured out their hearts to me. I don't really know why, but I've sure never minded. I was once voted "Most Trustworthy" and that meant a lot. I considered becoming a therapist, but decided I probably needed more therapy than I could give out! 13) Probably the most interesting Christmas gift that I've ever asked for was a real motorcycle, since I was only 3 or 4 years old when I made that request. But, I was VERY serious. And I couldn't understand why Santa Claus got it all confused and sent me a wind-up toy motorcycle with Mickey Mouse riding on it. He clearly did not understand that I myself wanted to ride on one! And, there's a “baker's dozen”! I think that should more than tide everyone over.... Each Christmas, I love giving the gift of music and having an opportunity to possibly introduce friends and family to a new singer/songwriter or band. This year I've already chosen Anthony Skinner's Christmas EP, "Christmas Morning" which you can check out for yourself at https://itunes.apple.com/us/album/christmas-morning-ep/id491266186. I highly recommend it! Also, of course, my CD is available on iTunes at https://itunes.apple.com/us/album/letters-prayers-journal-entries/id5016103?ign-mpt=uo INVALID 4. Anyway, I just wanted to close out by saying "thank you" for all the encouragement and amazing support through the years, and for continuing to cheer me onward in my artistic attempts. It means the world! MERRY CHRISTMAS and HAPPY HOLIDAYS to each of you and your families! Hi all-- I sure hope this finds everyone doing well and enjoying everything this wonderful season brings. If you're anything like me, you've already begun spinning Christmas CDs (or going through your Christmas playlists on your ipod). I tend to be a bit old school, and I guess I'm not the only one since vinyl records are now making a comeback. Some of you may have noticed that I have been MIA....missing in action. I sort of fell off the face of the earth awhile back, and truth be told, I've actually been living under a rock for quite some time. In 2007, I was finally diagnosed with Lyme disease and have been rather preoccupied with doing treatments for that. Thankfully, I am seeing better days and just beginning to start focusing on music again. I've really missed it…playing guitar, writing songs, playing out...and I've missed getting to reach out to you! To make up for lost time, I thought for fun I would share some random trivia about myself. So, for your entertainment-- 1) One of my all-time favorite childhood Christmas memories is of my dad and brother going out every year to cut down a 16-foot Christmas tree for us to decorate together as a family, while listening to Christmas records...although, sometimes this wouldn't even happen until Christmas Eve....and my mom would always fix tapioca pudding. To me, there's still nothing like the smell of a real Christmas tree. 2) I bought my first guitar with high school graduation money at a yard sale. It was a Hohner, and I was so grateful to have it. And I got my Gibson J-200, as a college graduation present from my parents--it was sort of bribery to be sure I finished my last semester in college, since I hated my major so badly....it worked and I picked out my guitar at Gruhn Guitars in Nashville. 3) I like a little bit of coffee with my sugar and cream, which makes me feel like a "fake" coffee drinker. But I do like it to be at least a medium roast and nice and strong. 4) I absolutely love snow, and the irony is that I grew up in the deep south, in Jackson, MS, where snow rarely ever falls. As a little girl, I used to long for a "white Christmas" every year. 5) My favorite Christmas movie, I think, is probably "It's A Wonderful Life" with James Stewart. It's a classic and always inspires me to look at life a little differently. 6) I have really long toes. I've always said that if I ever lost my hands, I wondered if I might actually be able to play the guitar with my feet. 7) I still love to buy physical CDs with CD booklets that come with artwork and lyrics and sit down and listen to the whole CD from beginning to end in one sitting. I personally feel that makes it a meaningful musical experience for me....and I feel that's becoming a lost art. I watch my sweet nephews just downloading single songs, and I feel like they're missing out somehow.
