Greetings. I produce instrumentals. I use FL Studio 9 and a Yamaha keyboard as a MIDI controller. Many of my songs are sample-based (the seed of Hip Hop music), meaning I gather sounds from or "sample" other music, whether it a single sound (drum kick, snare, etc.) or a segment (a melody, etc.) and then create something new. Hip Hop began with the looping of breaks, which is a particular drum solo or segment of a song found on records that are usually without the accompaniment of other non-percussive instruments, by DJs. A famous break (6 seconds long), for example, is found on James Brown's "Funky Drummer". The looping of these breaks led to the layering or mixing of melodies found on other records, and thus, a new genre of music was born. With the creation of samplers and sequencers (ex:SPs and MPCs), the growth and complexity of beats or Hip Hop instrumentals continued as the element of chopping drum breaks, melodies, any sample, and their arrangement and rearrangement became possible. Hip Hop has grown beautifully and is being created globally with great diversity in all elements or practices - rapping, beat-making, DJing, breakdancing, and beatboxing. At this juncture in modern society, the ease of making Hip Hop music is great, as one can do so with simply a computer and the necessary software to sequence samples (like FL Studio). I enjoy making music, and I hope that you enjoy listening to the songs I've made. Thanks. -Naanva (Baker)
