I was born in the small town of Hinton, WV. My dad was a musician who had the gift of being able to play any instrument he picked up. My sisters were all musically inclined. Two of them could play at least two instruments and sing, and the other was only a singer. On my dad's side of the family were several musicians, and we'll just say we didn't have to hire entertainment at family gatherings. We would all bring instruments, and have family jam session.
This is the life I grew up in, and so it only seemed fitting when I got my first guitar at age 4 from one of my uncles, and was playing in church with my dad at age 5. My dad was a very good teacher, and by age 10, I was playing bluegrass and gospel music on guitar, bass, piano, drums, or banjo.
I joined the marching band in school when I was 11, and learned the trombone, baritone, tuba, trumpet, saxophone, and french horn. I left the band in high school to play football, but still had many occasions to play music at church, family gatherings, social events, and of course, on the front porch with my dad.
I started writing songs in high school, and this has become my favorite part of music. Creating something all my own, that no one has played before, was, and still is, a big thrill.
I enjoy performing very much. The fire inside me to entertain, and "show off", is an uncontrollable force. Singing, and music is the first thought I have when I wake up, and my last thought before sleep.
